The Vocals Show 2015 • March 19-22

Tickets now on sale. See the link below!

The Vocal Dimensions will perform 90 minutes worth of some of the best-loved songs from the last 200 years in its upcoming concert, “Tune Travel Through Time.”

Tickets are now on sale in the music program’s online box office. Get them here. There are 7 p.m. performances on March 19, 20 and 21, and at 2 p.m. on March 22. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The Vocal Dimensions is a 16-student auditioned show choir featuring eight young men and eight young women, seven of whom also in Holland High’s instrumental music programs.

“There’s something for everybody in this show,” said Sarah Cox, choir director. “We probably have more au cappella pieces than in the past, but we can do that with this group. They are such fine musicians.”

Musical selections date from “The Barber of Seville Overture” by Gioachino Rossini to the contemporary song “Royals” by Lorde.

The will perform nine full-group numbers. Five of the 16 performers will sing solos or duets, including baritones Jamie Colburn and Nick Guisinger, who won top honors last fall at the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition last October.

The men will sing a medley from the musical “Jersey Boys” and “If I Loved You” from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel. “

The girls will perform “Royals” as well as  “Somebody to Love” by Queen.

Eight of the numbers will also feature dancing. Former Vocal Dimensions star Brianne Hemmeke, now a student at Hope College, serves as choreographer. Student choreographers are Noah Helmus and Colburn.

Other highlights of the show will be “A Little Less Conversation” recorded by Elvis Presley, “Summertime” by George Gershwin, and “I’ll Be Seeing You” recorded by Billie Holiday.

Proceeds from “Tune Travels Through Time” will directly support vocal music program, Cox said.

The Vocal Dimensions will also be part of an April 23 concert featuring all Holland High vocal music programs. That event starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

The Vocal Dimensions will also perform one or more pieces at “Dazzle,” a May 5 Tulip Time show featuring top musical acts from Holland, Holland Christian, West Ottawa and Zeeland High Schools. Tickets to that event may be purchased at www.tuliptime.com.
