Welcome to the 2010-2011 School Year!

Thanks to the support of our community in May we're beginning the process of renovating our aging facilities, upgrading technology, and moving toward 21st Century learning. Our "Build 21" campaign will take about three years to complete, and I invite you to join us in this exciting journey.

As we now welcome the 2010-2011 School Year, let's not let all of the enthusiasm for our future building plans overshadow the tangible achievements of last year.  While election campaigns captured the headlines, our teachers and staff continued to do what they do best – preparing our students for success at the next level.

For example, Holland High's Class of 2010 was comprised of 226 grads, 81% now entering higher education with a combined $2 million in scholarships and awards. And VR Tech's first-ever  graduating class numbered more than 20 students!

Additionally, Holland High's recent MME/ACT test scores for 11th graders showed significant improvement from 2009 as well as double-digit percentage increases over state averages in every category on the exams: Reading, Math, Writing, Science, and Social Studies.

In many organizations, to make progress, you must be open to make change. Holland Public Schools is not different in this regard. But, along with notable accomplishments, we have a fresh and re-invigorated commitment to helping our students succeed in the 21st Century's international marketplace. What a great way to start a new school year!
