New Tech Network Intro and Articles List
Welcome!
We're excited about launching a New Tech Network affiliated high school in the fall, 2010. The national non-profit New Tech Network currently supports about 50 high schools in 10 states. It has a proven 10 year track record of positively impacting student achievement and motivation through relevant "project based" instruction. Our plan calls for creating a satellite New Tech high school at the former location of Longfellow Elementary School (pending Board approval).
Last year Holland High earned a "Silver Medal Award" from U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 200 public high schools in the U.S. Given the success of our comprehensive Holland High program as well as the growth of VR Tech (our credit recovery and drop-out prevention program for 8th-12th graders at Van Raalte), we believe that our New Tech high school will add another beneficial option for students and parents to consider when choosing a high school program.
Making a targeted investment in the future has been greatly aided by our staff, parents, and students at our four K-7 schools (Heights, West, East, and Jefferson) who have made the fall '09 launch of these schools go so well.
As you know, these are difficult economic times, but anchored by a community that cares deeply about the education of its young people, we will continue to move forward. We will maintain the instructional priorities we promised. We will always seek to innovate and implement fresh initiatives that connect with this generation of learners.
Thank you. Please look over the following preliminary information about Holland Public Schools and the New Tech Network.
