Well Done, Class of 2009!
Holland High's Class of 2009 comprised of 260 graduates and this energetic, hard-working group earned more than $2 million in scholarships and awards. The Class of 2009 included students who won numerous honors in theatre, music, forensics, mathematics, U.S. First Robotics, Quiz Bowl, and athletics. This year's grads were also known by their compassion and willingness to "walk the talk" in their service to others.
Commencement 2009 was held in Monday, June 1, in Hope College's DeVos Field House. A standing room only audience heard Guest Speaker Fred Johnson, a history professor at Hope, encourage graduates to step up and use their unique abilities and prior successes to begin making a positive difference in our world, "right here, right now." As every grad's name was read, school board trustees handed out diplomas as each grad proceeded across the stage, where Principal Bill Trujillo and Superintendent Brian Davis then extended their personal congratulations.
In the days leading up to the June 1st Commencement, parents sponsored a Baccalaureate ceremony on Sunday afternoon, May 31, in Hope's Dimnent Chapel.
On Thursday, May 28, Holland High hosted its Honors Convocation in the Dutch Dome. Superintendent Brian Davis distributed 64 "Gold Cords" to graduates who earned a 3.5 GPA (or higher) during their high school years. A dessert reception for all grads and guests followed the Convocation in the Holland High art wing and media center.
