A Tremendous Teaching Trio
Three HPS teachers were honored this spring for their commitment to their students and their superb instructional skills. “We have so many excellent teachers,” said Dave Harwell, assistant superintendent. “It’s great to spotlight Jim, Kathie, and Joy. They’re part of a wonderful professional team.”
Joy Kooyer, 3rd grade teacher at Maplewood, was featured this month as a WGVU-TV “Cool Teacher” award winner. Student Sydney Adams nominated Mrs. Kooyer.
Jim DeBoer, elementary music specialist and director of Jefferson’s 5th grade ensemble, was selected as a regional finalist in Michigan’s 2009 Teacher of the Year award.
Kathie Beck, personal finance & fashion design teacher at Holland High, was chosen to teach other teachers as a Master Teacher for the Family Economics & Financial Education Foundation (U. of Arizona).
