Young Historians on to DC!

This past Saturday 11 HPS students took their 6 projects to the State competition of National History Day at CMU. They joined nearly 500 other participants hoping their work would qualify them to go on to the National competition at the University of Maryland in June. With only 2 projects in each category allowed to go on to that next level, the quality of work has to be exceptional.

Our students were exceptional! ALL of our projects are National Qualifiers!!! ALL 11 of our Holland Public School students got to enjoy the pleasure and priviledge of being recognized for their scholarly work by everyone at the awards ceremony.

From Holland High School --
Jaime Coon, Alex Klomparens and Logan O'Neal absolutely "Wowed" the judges with their group documentary

From East K-8 School --
Alex Arnold charmed the judges with his story-telling hillbilly character in his individual performance

From West Middle School --
Jakob Gibson and Dominic Surya each dazzled the judges with their individual websites

Joel Chamness, Edric Lin and Andreas Slette thoroughly impressed the judges with their group exhibit

Monica Ellis and Brianne Hemmeke won the judges over with their tale of false witchcraft in their group performance

These students have been working steadily on these projects this entire school year, demonstrating amazing perseverance as they have delved deeply into their studies and created projects that are at the very least, impressive!

Holland Public Schools will be wonderfully well represented at the National History Day competition this coming June 15-18.

We are proud to share the accomplishments of these fantastic students with you!
